Cavner Aka Daniel Pitts is one of our favourite dj's here at MANDELA yEARS not only is he part of the D>A>N> Presents... crew but also my love child. Cavner has been studying Photography at UCA for the last 2 and a half years now and in his spare time has been carafting his DJing technique and tearing up partys with some heavy techno bleeps.
Here is a nice little interview with him for your pleasure...
1. What have you been up to today?
"Lazed around doing nothing and then downloaded some essential mixes."
2. What are your biggest musical influences?
"DJ wise probably Brodinski, Crookers, Modeselektor, Erol Alkan and Richie Hawtin. I have had the best nights out with them Djing. Other music that i like is anything from Arcade fire, beirut, Sigur ros, the list goes on but any music thats done well."
3. What are you listening to at the moment?
"Dios by Dubfire at this precise moment, but a lot of techno. i like it pounding, like a penis."
4. Who is your artist of the year?
"Its hard to narrow it down but i,d say Crookers though i,m starting to get a bit bored of them at the mo. DeadMau5 and i've just discovered Fergie though i don,t know how many of his tracks have been released within the last year."
5. What is your most important bit of kit when djing, is it your desktop?
"Not anymore becuase its fucked. Anything that will play my bloody songs. But the actual kit is the keyboard because it allows me to do stuff i never considered and furthered my Djing abilities. Playing 4 tracks idepentantly is very useful. Would,t be able to do it with the mixer i was going to get. Also Abelton, once i grasped it, its amazing."
6. What is your best djing experience?
"Probably your party, only time played a set live how i planned it without my djing jinx i,ve got floating around me fucking it up. First gig though was great seeing people dance and like it for the first time. Probably that actually."
7. Tell us a song that you like but in reality is actaully shit.
